PROJECT STATUS: The manuscript for the installment Caryophyllidae (corresponding to volumes 4 and 5 of Flora of North America) is in press at Rhodora to appear in the next issue. An uncorrected draft version of this installment is posted on this web site. The installment for Paeoniaceae to Ericaceae (corresponding to volume 8 of Flora of North America) has recently been published in Phytoneuron and also appears here. The installment published earlier this year in Phytoneuron corresponding to volume 7 Flora of North America (Salicaceae to Brassicaceae) is now posted here with corrections. Work has started on the next installment, Asteraceae (corresponding to volumes 19-21 of Flora of North America). Note: The subclass names identifying our installments are used merely as a convenience to match the corresponding titles of Flora of North America volumes and do not reflect currently accepted classification. Introduction to the Web Version

This web edition of the Atlas of the Flora of New England will be an ongoing updated document. Use the links at the top of each page to access the available sections of the atlas. We welcome information on vouchered county records not reflected in this atlas and other suggested changes or corrections. The first five installments were published in Rhodora (the journal of the New England Botanical Club) in Volume 98, No. 893 on pages 1-79 (Winter 1996 [April 1997]), Volume 100, No. 902 on pages 101-233 (Spring 1998 [August 1998]), Volume 102, No. 909 on pages 1-119 (Winter 2000 [Feb. 2000]), Volume 109, No. 939, on pages 237-360 (Summer 2007 [Sept. 2007]) and Volume 112, No. 951, on pages 244-326 [Nov. 2010]. One additional installment is in press for publication in Rhodora. The six and seventh installments have been published in the online publication Phytoneuron at Phytoneuron (2011-12: 1-16 + figs. 1-53 (maps)) and Phytoneuron (2011-53: 1-13 + figs. 1-18 (maps)). The maps on our web site here are updated as new vouchered records are brought to our attention.

A web application that produces dot distribution maps on-the-fly from our database has been developed for this atlas by Angelo. The New England background maps for the application are adapted from a more detailed custom map provided generously by Ray Sterner whose map web site is at: http://fermi.jhuapl.edu/states/. The maps are in color and show topography. Lowest elevations are green and higher elevations become progressively more brown with the highest elevations purplish and white. The distributions reflect the most current state of our database. We invite curators and other researchers who are aware of herbarium records not reflected in our database to notify us of these records by e-mail. We only need to know the taxon and the particular herbarium where the voucher is located.
